165. Who Do You Go to First?

by | Oct 1, 2024 | Podcast

When something, either good or not-so-good, pops up in your life, who do you go to first with it? If it’s something wonderful and worthy of celebration, who do you celebrate with first? And if it’s something that’s not so great–something difficult that arises in your life–who do you go to first to either ask for help or to share your troubles? Do you tend to take everything to God first? We’re digging into this question of who we go to first in today’s episode because it’s something that matters and makes a difference in our everyday lives. I share a personal story that drives this home. If you could use some encouragement in your life today, you’ve come to the right place.

Who Do You Go to First? | two women's hands with coffee on table across from one another

God reminded me of an important truth this summer.

I find it fascinating how God can use anything He wants to get our attention and to teach us. In this particular case, He chose for me, bugs.

I share the story of how my grandsons were getting bit by something while at our home during a few weeks this summer. I thought for sure they were a certain kind of bug bite. And we did all sorts of work to get rid of them. But, turns out, it wasn’t that kind of bug at all.

Yet, God knew it all along. If only I went to Him first.

Who do you go to first?

God desires us to go to Him. He desires to help us. But oftentimes we’ll turn to other people or things instead. We also look at three Bible verses to encourage our hearts and point us to truth.

Friend, no matter what you experience today–good or not-so-good–take it to God first. I will do the same. Then let’s continue to do it again tomorrow. I can’t help but think doing so must give God great joy, when His children come to Him. I’m guessing it gives Him great delight. And it does the same for us, too. You are loved, friend. God bless you!

God doesn't expect us to have it all together. He asks us to simply trust Him.

His grace is enough in our weakness.

Take a deep breath, friend. He's not finished with you yet.

What's inside always finds a way to come out. Especially when we're jolted or shaken.

Negativity in our hearts? Negativity will come out in our words?

Joy in our hearts? Joy will abound in our actions.

What's inside your heart?

When we pay attention to our words and actions, they can quickly reveal what's in our hearts that we might not notice on our own.

We can then begin to make any adjustments needed.

This helps us live abundant lives.

I'm grateful for this truth today, aren't you?

Take the pressure off of yourself and rest in the One who is in control.

This is a key to abundant life.

Is life feeling out of control right now?

Sometimes, it's helpful to step back and remember we aren't the ones who are responsible for keeping everything in control.

God is.

Here's a simple prayer to pray to release it all into God's capable hands.

Step into the abundant life God has for you. I can help you do that.
