I love it that God made each of us unique.
My friend Marcia can’t stand pickles or olives. She doesn’t even want to smell them. I, on the other hand, could eat both pickles and olives with every meal. They might just be my favorite foods. 🙂
My friend Tina and her daughters love Taylor Swift and her singing. Let’s just say she’s not my favorite country artist.
My sister-in-law Stacie loves to read. I love to write. (She likes to write too.)
My friend Tiffany dances. I’d rather sing.
My friend Patty has the gift of baking. I do not.
My friend Jeanie (I never thought I’d say this years ago) is a great cook. It’s not something I have ever enjoyed, but I believe that is changing.
Some of us like short hair, some of us like our hair long.
Some of us like to bike, some of us like to jog, some of us like to not exercise at all.
Some of us like cooked broccoli, some of us like raw broccoli with ranch dip, some of us would never allow a piece of broccoli to get anywhere near our our lips.
We are all different. And I love that.
I believe we all should embrace and celebrate each other’s uniqueness and gifts more than we do. I’m reminded of the boy who told Alissa she was weird one day when I ate lunch with her in elementary school because she was eating her broccoli covered with cheese sauce. He hated broccoli, and those who like it were weird to him. And he told them so.
I wonder how often we do that? Intentionally or not…do we consider those who are different than us or like different things than us, weird?
If God wanted us to all be the same, He would have made us that way. If He wanted us all to like the same things, He would have given us the same preferences.
I love The Voice translation of Psalm 139:13-15:
As I took shape in secret, carefully crafted in the heart of the earth before I was born from its womb.
So…I’m not weird. You’re not weird. We are all just unique. God made us unique. I’d say that’s something to rejoice in! And I’d say that’s something we should embrace and encourage others in too.
