Take Me Out To The Ballgame(s)…

by | Jun 27, 2009 | family, summer

The last week and a half have really seemed like summer! The weather has been hot and humid, with temperatures reaching into the upper 90’s! My flowers are looking beautiful in my pots and flower beds (with a few weeds). We’ve had a few tornado watches and warnings within the last week in our area. And I’ve enjoyed my morning walks outside on the gravel roads! But the thing that makes it seem like summer the most to me are baseball games!

I grew up playing softball and my brother Pat played baseball. He reminds me he pitched a no-hitter once in Pony League, but I remind him that I pitched TWO my junior year in high school! 🙂 Summer for me was all about playing ball! Within the last week we have enjoyed going to my three nephews’ baseball games. How fun it has been for me!

We have gone to two of Bennett’s (my Godson’s) games. He is seven and plays Tee-ball. At his first game he hit a homerun and a double! He’s a good little ball player! He usually hits the first pitch that’s thrown to him. It’s so fun to watch him!

His older brother Patrick, who’s nine, plays Little League ball. The game we went to Patrick played 2nd base and had a great pop-fly catch! He’s a good hitter and a fast runner! It’s fun to hear him encourage his teammates!

Adam, my nephew who is thirteen, plays Pony League for a different team. I guess at the game on Wednesday evening, Adam had two homeruns! We watched him play Thursday evening. He normally plays 2nd base, but since the catcher was at wrestling camp, Adam was the catcher this game. He did a great job! He had a great hit, ran the bases great, and didn’t let many, if any, balls get past him as he caught!

I was so proud watching each of them play! I couldn’t help myself but to think that both Grandpa and Grandma, my mom and dad, would have loved to watch Bennett, Patrick and Adam play ball too! They enjoyed baseball, and they loved their grandchildren! 🙂

I want to be the kind of aunt that stays involved in my nieces’ and nephews’ lives. I want to attend as many of their events as I can. I appreciate each of them so much, and I enjoy the times I get to spend with them. I am especially thankful that I get to see all nine of them on a regular basis…they all live pretty close to where we do!

I know baseball season is winding down for all of them, but I’m hopeful we can catch at least one more game for each of them before the season is over!
