I receive a daily scripture passage from The Voice Bible. Today’s is a warning about pride…
Proverbs 16:18
Pride precedes destruction; an arrogant spirit gives way to a nasty fall.
Boy, isn’t that the truth!! I remember hearing someone a few years ago boast about himself. At the time, it made me feel very uncomfortable, and I remember thinking, “You’re not as great as you think you are, mister.” Shortly after that, he was brought very low due to different circumstances. And I was reminded of that time of his bragging.
Pride is a dangerous thing, and I’ve had my generous share of it. And God, with love and gentleness, humbled me. I’m thankful He did, even though the process was extremely painful. That’s not to say I’m above pride today, because I can still slip back into that sinkhole. Staying in God’s Word helps me keep myself in proper perspective…and I can remind myself, “You’re not as great as you think you are, girl.”
