203. Finding Abundance in the Unexpected with Reverend Barbara Furman

Welcome to the Encouragement for Real Life Podcast, where we find real hope and encouragement in our everyday real lives. This is our guest episode for the month, so we pause our Summer of Abundance series this week. I have the deep honor of introducing you to someone who has shaped my life and faith in immeasurable ways. She’s an ordained minister, the founder of a local mission, a woman I call a dear friend and mentor—and she’s the one who introduced me to a relationship with Jesus. We welcome Reverend Barbara Furman! Her story is one of deep surrender, unwavering faith, and glorifying God through every season—even in the midst of suffering.

In every season her mission remains the same: to follow Jesus and help others do the same. I believe her words today will stir your heart, strengthen your faith, and remind you of the beauty found in walking closely with Christ—no matter the season.

I appreciate how Barb is real, authentic, and lives our her faith tangibly. With every conversation, I walk away refreshed, renewed, and I glean something new about God.

Barbara Furman doesn’t live an abundant life in the world’s eyes, but in God’s eyes, she does.

And that’s what truly matters.

Can I say that about me? Can you say that about you?

Barb’s life is a testimony of faith that endures. Not just in the easy or the exciting seasons, but also in the hard, hidden, and hurting ones. Her story reminds us that even in suffering, we can glorify God. Even in weakness, His strength shines through.

If you’re longing to live a more abundant life in every season, be sure to check out the rest of our Summer of Abundance series right here on the podcast. Next week we explore how staying close to our Source–God–helps us to live an abundant life, and how we go about doing that.

Until next time, keep walking closely with Jesus—because He’s with you through it all. God bless you!

Being where your feet are doesn't have to be quiet or serious.

Sometimes, it's clanging spatulas, giggling grandsons, and worship music on full blast.

This is abundance.
This is presence.
This is joy in the now.

Let’s not miss the sacred in the silly.

You’re not behind.
You’re not late.
You’re not too much or not enough.
You’re here.

And here is sacred ground when God walks with you.
Stay present, friend.
There’s peace in the now. ✈️💛

Ever find yourself mentally time-traveling to the past, future, and everywhere but the present? 🙋‍♀️ Same. But the peace we're chasing? It’s only found right here, right now—with God.

Today, let’s choose to be fully where our feet are. 💛

Peace hits different when it’s rooted in surrender.
It’s not about everything being “figured out”—
It’s about knowing the One who holds it all.

You’re not who you were.
You’re walking (or driving 😉) in freedom.
And girl, it looks good on you.

It happens to the best of us, especially us women. Our thoughts can not only distract us, but they can derail us. 🥴

But we don't have to let them.

Say this prayer the next time your thoughts distract you. There's nothing like inviting God in!

Are you where your feet are today? Could you use a little help in staying present?

We continue on in our Summer of Abundance series on the Encouragement for Real Life Podcast today, and in episode 206, which dropped earlier this morning, we explore the fifth element of abundant life: Purposeful Presence. You might guess it's a subject I'm passionate about.

This episode is for you if you're tired of life passing you by and if you're ready to live more in the moment. In this snippet, I share Purposeful Presence in three categories, which is a great place to begin. Find the full 23-minute episode wherever you listen to podcasts or @julielefebure.

No matter what last week looked like… this one holds new beauty, new purpose, and new grace.

So water what matters.
Tend to your heart.
And trust that God is growing something good—even if you can’t see it yet. 🌸
