A few days throughout the year we have a Pajama Day in our home! Some Pajama Days are a planned event, and some are not. Some Pajama Days are an entire day in our pajamas from start to finish, and some are only part of the day. I love Pajama Day! Today I began my day early, doing my BSF lesson, spending some with the Lord and having some alone time–in my pajamas. That led to checking my email, starting some laundry, working in my office, enjoying my coffee–all in my pajamas. I guess today is going to be a Pajama Day–at least part of it anyway!
It refreshes us when we can just take the rushing busy-ness out of our lives. And that’s why I think I like Pajama Day so much. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28 “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
It can be so easy to get caught up in the “rat-race” of life, that we never take time to rest. Especially in this day and age, we are a people who are on the go. We have our plates packed full of all we have to do, and many days we can’t finish all that is on that plate! We get weary and burdened. The yoke upon us sometimes seems so heavy. But Jesus says to come to Him and He will give us rest. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. When was the last time you came to Him for rest?
Pajama Day reminds me of that scripture verse. Pajama Day reminds me to slow down and rest. It reminds me that I can cast my burdens on Him and He will give me rest for my soul. It reminds me to take up Jesus’ yoke instead of my own. May you have a Pajama Day soon–maybe you can have one this Thanksgiving weekend. My son is already planning our Pajama Days over Christmas break! It helps all of us to keep our focus where it needs to be–living a life that honors God. Enjoy Pajama Day!
