Living Triumphantly Because Our God Is So Big

by | Apr 21, 2016 | Love God

Psalm 147 5We played it with our babies… the “So Big” game.

In their high chairs or on our laps, we’d ask the question, “How big is Alissa?” or, “How big is Zachary?” We’d clasp their hands and lift their arms toward the sky and respond with, “So big!”

A smile or giggle always followed. As did numerous repetitions of the game.

It didn’t take long for them to catch on. We’d ask the question, and they’d automatically lift their hands up to the sky. “So big!” Yes, they were. And so precious, too.

My heart smiles as I remember those long-ago days. Those babies are now 21 and 19!

Yes, our babies were taught they were so big.

They were also taught God is so big.

Until they began Kindergarten they were a part of the preschool program at Bible Study Fellowship. There they learned deep truths about God through His Word. One of the finger plays they enjoyed back then was “My God Is So Big.” It went something like this:

My God is so Big,
So strong and so mighty,
There’s nothing my God cannot do.

The mountains are His,
The rivers are His,
The stars are His handiwork too.

Years later I’m still a part of Bible Study Fellowship. As I’ve plunged head-first into Revelation with 390+ women this year, I’m getting a glimpse of just how big our God is. I thought I had an idea of His bigness, but I was completely mistaken.

God is even bigger than I thought He was.

A few weeks ago I watched our leader perform this very same finger play in front of the women and children in attendance. It reminded me how far God has taken me since my children used to play it. It reminded me of His greatness and His faithfulness in my life. It prompted me to sink my trust in Him even deeper. It caused me to keep in His care the things my mind can’t begin to understand.

All from a simple children’s finger play.

Because my God is so big, so strong, so mighty, there is nothing I need to fear. He’s got everything under His control.

Because there’s nothing my God cannot do, I can trust Him with everything. He’s got a great future planned for those who put their trust in Him.

How does one begin to describe how big our God is? How do we put Him in words? Friend, what words come to your mind when you think of God? I’d love to read them in the comments below.

My words seem to fall short.

Our Lord is great. Nothing is impossible with His overwhelming power. He is loving, compassionate, and wise beyond all measure. Psalm 147:5 VOICE

God, your God, is the God of all gods, he’s the Master of all masters, a God immense and powerful and awesome. He doesn’t play favorites, takes no bribes, makes sure orphans and widows are treated fairly, takes loving care of foreigners by seeing that they get food and clothing. Deuteronomy 10:17-18

Our God is so big!

Our God is so big.

When we realize how big our God is, the only appropriate response is praise.

Father God, You are so great and so good. You are worthy of all our praise. No one compares to You. You are holy, true, and majestic in all Your ways. Oh, Lord, we cannot comprehend really Who You are. We cannot comprehend how big You really are. Father, help us to have the faith of little children. Children who raise our hands and say You’re ‘so big,’ and who recite finger plays to remind us of your greatness. We honor you and worship you this day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today may we be like little ones who raise our hands and praise our God for He is “so big!” May we live triumphantly because we are His.

Much love,

Julie

One of the things I love most about God is the way he uses simple, everyday things, words, songs to remind us that He is big and He is with us! Great post Julie, Cindy

For the longest time, I thought God was waiting for me to have it all together before He could use me. But then I realized… He’s never asked for my perfection—just my obedience. If He can use the broken, the unsure, and the unqualified in the Bible, He can use me (and you) too.

If you’ve ever felt ‘not ready enough’ for what God is calling you to, this is your reminder: He equips those He calls. 💛

As the day winds down, no matter how the day played out, we who choose to live abundant lives understand it matters how we end the day.

Ending it praising, thanking, and trusting God encourages our hearts, blesses Him, and sets the tone for tomorrow.

Even on the hardest days, choosing to praise, thank, and trust God shifts our focus from what went wrong to who He is. An abundant life isn’t about perfect days—it’s about a heart anchored in Him.

Instead of striving and overthinking, let’s rest in God’s care today, grow in His timing, and bloom right where He’s planted us.

“Consider how the wildflowers grow. They do not labor or spin… Yet not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” — Luke 12:27 NIV
