Be A Noticer Of The Simple Things In Life

by | May 8, 2018 | Encouragement

Some times exciting ideas or amazing thoughts come to me while I’m in the shower, or when I’m putting on my makeup, or when I’m behind my steering wheel cruising down the road. All three places aren’t great for writing down these ideas when they come, so I usually do my best to lock them into my memory. Realistically, however, they’ve been known to escape within the hour.

But not today. Today’s thought popped in on my way to work, and it has stuck in my brain ever since.

“Be a noticer of the simple things in life.”

Is noticer even a word? Did I just make this word up? Vocabulary.com confirmed it for me… it’s a word, and no, I didn’t make it up. Whew!

noticer :: a person who becomes aware (of things or events) through the senses

Be a noticer of the simple things in life.

Some days I find myself so consumed with the monumental-sized deadlines, commitments, and demands that I miss the simple things right in front of me. Friend, do you find yourself experiencing the same? As life continues to pick up speed, I’m desperately attempting to do what I can to slow it down. You too?

Today’s thought changed my perspective.

Now, these ideas and thoughts I’m referring to don’t come from me. No… with as much jumbled up stuff I have going on in this brain of mine, it’s a wonder I can even put a sentence together most days! Seriously, though, I believe these come straight from God, Himself. Just what I need, right when I need it most.

God knows I often miss the simple. He’s aware my schedule blurs my focus. And, He sees me running just to catch myself most days.

It’s no wonder He’s prompting me to slow my step.

To be a noticer of the simple things in life means slowing my pace to pay attention. It means moving at a pace to experience what’s simple, beautiful, wonderful.

To be a noticer of the simple things in life means perceiving what’s around me. Thoroughly tasting my food, seeing blooming flowers on my way to work, enjoying music that’s streaming through my car speakers.

To be a noticer of the simple things in life means thanking God for the blessings I once missed. A thankful heart magnifies the significance of what’s simple.

Today I slowed down to notice beautiful flowers in bloom, colorful buds and blossoms on trees, and asparagus peeking through the ground. I fully enjoyed the chocolate ice cream I treated myself to. And, the scent of the Lily of the Valley that’s growing in my garden smelled incredible as I walked by.

I was a noticer of the simple things in life today.

And, it felt great! Friend, I encourage you to be a noticer too. Slow your pace. Find what’s simple. Soak it up. Take a photo of it if you’d like. How many simple things can you notice in your day? Why not thank God for each one? If you’d care to, please share the simple things you noticed in the comment below. I’d love to read about them!

May this become a habit that we experience every day!

Thanks again for journeying through this life with me. It’s a joy to do life together!

Blessings!

It amazes me how it’s often those simple things that bring me to tears.

No matter what last week looked like… this one holds new beauty, new purpose, and new grace.

So water what matters.
Tend to your heart.
And trust that God is growing something good—even if you can’t see it yet. 🌸

Turns out…
surrendering control didn’t break anything.
(Except maybe my pride. And my planner. 😬)

But peace showed up.
Clarity followed.
And I finally had room to breathe.

Letting go isn’t losing—it’s living.

Surrender isn’t about pretending it’s easy—
It’s about trusting anyway.

You don’t have to understand it all.
Just release what was never yours to carry.
That’s where peace begins.

You weren’t meant to do this on your own.
You weren’t created to be your own source.

So if life feels heavy today, come back to the One who holds it all together—and holds you.

Let Him carry what you can’t.

Some women believe surrendering is stifling, or restrictive, or demeaning. Nothing could be more untrue.

When we surrender our will and lives to Jesus, it's then when we find true, abundant life.

What's one area of life you can surrender into His capable hands today?

I used to think surrender was scary.
Now I know what’s really scary…
Me in charge of everything. 😂

Surrender isn’t giving up—it’s getting peace.
Getting direction.
Getting the abundant life I couldn’t create on my own.

Here’s your permission to stop carrying what you weren’t meant to hold. 🙌

Are we holding on tightly or letting go?

Abundant life is a free life- living, breathing, and trusting God has everything under control.

Comment AMEN if you agree.

I hear numerous women say they want to grow their relationship with God, but they aren't sure where to begin.

Sound familiar?

It's not complicated or difficult. Try these rhythms for yourself and watch your relationship with God grow.

Which one speaks the most to you?
