Tuesday, as I was backing out of my driveway, I took in a sight that brought a smile to my face. I looked to my left as I was backing out to make sure there were no cars coming from that direction, and as I did, I saw water splashing from a pot hole in our road. Four house sparrows were taking a bath in that pot hole! I smiled and almost laughed to myself…the scene touched my heart.
I heard that morning that we were going to get rain…the first day in 25 days…and it did rain…enough to fill the pot holes! Those birds were probably loving that water, and I can only imagine how great it felt for them to immerse themselves! Water was splashing into the air and onto the road. They would dip their heads under the water, shake themselves off, and do it again. I only had a few minutes to watch as I needed to be on my way.
That brought to mind part of the scripture I shared on Sunday…”Look at the birds, free and unfretted, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.” –Matthew 6:26 (Message translation) If God cares enough for those sparrows to give them water to bathe in, He certainly cares for me much more. 🙂 I needed that reminder that day!
