As Bill and I celebrated our seventeenth anniversary on Saturday, I know we were both a little disappointed that our original plans of going away for the weekend weren’t working out like we had hoped. There were too many things happening with our family which took priority over us going away. We decided to stay home, and to hopefully celebrate our anniversary in a few weeks, realizing again that sometimes other things need to come first.
We spent our anniversary at Ali’s volleyball tournament during the day, then went out to eat that evening and took Zach with us.
When all of us returned home that evening, the most wonderful “gifts” were given to us by our children. Zach made for us on Wii Music a concert with his Mii and Ali’s Mii. (If you aren’t familiar with a Wii, I realize you have no idea what I’m talking about…sorry!) The song they performed on a concert hall stage was Bridal Chorus (Here Comes the Bride). Zach’s Mii was playing the violin and Ali’s Mii was playing the harpsichord. It was beautiful! :o)
We found on the pillows on our bed a handwritten note from Ali. It brought tears to both of our eyes as we read it. I hope it doesn’t embarrass her, but I wanted to be able to read it again and again, so I’m posting it in this post. Her words really touched my heart….
Dear Dad & Mom,
First of all Happy Anniversary! I love you both very much and you make my day with everything you guys do for me. Mom and Dad, you’re the best parents anyone could have. I’m glad I’m stuck with you for the rest of my life. I miss you guys a whole bunch when you’re not with me. It’s super hard just to spend the night at a friend’s house when you aren’t there. I am comforted being with my wonderful parents.
Being together for seventeen years is a HUGE accomplishment now-a-days! I hope if I ever get married we will be just like you two. :o) Thank you both for everything you do for this family! If you weren’t here I don’t know what me and Zach would do! You guys are always in a positive mood when I’m around and it makes me think more positive.
Thank you so much for taking me to “Fun Days” today, on your anniversary! Also thanks for having to go out to eat with Zach. I feel really bad for making you do that and I know it’s not your ideal way to spend your anniversary, especially having to go and watch me play volleyball too!
I hope you do something special for your anniversary.
I love you both very very much & you guys mean so much to me!
Love,
Alissa
Can you see why we were melted? God truly blessed us when He gave us two wonderful children. What gifts they are to us and to everyone who knows them. So, even if our anniversary wasn’t what we originally thought it would be, it ended up being a big blessing and a very memorable one! 🙂
Awww! Sniff Sniff, Tear.
