Those words cut deep.
They caused confusion, discouragement, and maybe even tears when you heard them. You might have even questioned if your ears heard correctly.
Even though they were spoken many moons ago, they continue to whisper their presence.
Yes, you’ve moved on. You’ve grown. You’ve gone on to do good, to make a difference, to be a blessing.
And yet, those toxic words linger. They’ve fastened themselves to a piece of you, probably without you knowing and without your consent. They’ve evaded your life.
Every now and then they remind you. They remind you of your shortcomings, your wasted and feeble attempts, and how you’ll just never be quite good enough.
I know, because I understand.
But friend, may I shed some truth right here??
These words aren’t based on truth. They are nothing but lies. Bold-faced lies. Lies that we’ve listened to for way too long. Lies that no longer need to have a place in your life, or in mine.
These words are not you.
Take a look:
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4
Another version reads,
…the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
I invite you to pause for a handful of minutes, and allow yourself to be gifted with this from Mercy Me…
Doesn’t that just make you want to get up out of your seat and dance?! (It’s okay if you did.)
Truly, friend, God calls you redeemed.
redeemed :: buy back something lost or sold; setting free from captivity or slavery; ransomed
Through the gift of His Son, Jesus, God has set you free from the things of this world. He has bought you from eternal death, and has gifted your with eternal life. The things–and the words–of this world can’t compare to the greatness of Him who lives in you.
You and I no longer need to live under the judgments, the disapproval, the words spoken of and over us any longer.
We are set free from it all!
I pray you can see yourself in the ways God sees you. I pray these #CelebratingWhoYouAre posts are pointing you in the right direction. Continue stopping by each day to be encouraged, and seek God when you struggle with your identity in Him.
Ask Him to help you see yourself as He sees you.
I continue to pray for you, friend. You beautiful, talented, wonderful, good-enough friend!
Much love to you today,
Julie
It’s Day 8 of our journey… 31 Days #CelebratingWhoYouAre. May we be ones to use our words for good today! Thank you for stopping by for a few minutes. You are a blessing to me!
We are indeed redeemed! Love that MercyMe song. In Baptism, we are all called and claimed children of God.”
And another great song, Redeemed by Big Daddy Weave would have been a good one for today too. So thankful we can claim His redemption!
