(I’m stepping out and trying something new today. Promptings from my writer friends Meredith and Kelly. Here’s my attempt at Five Minute Friday. It’s where you are given a one word subject and you write for five minutes on that subject. With no editing, no concern for grammar, punctuation, etc. That about gives me a panic attack! Let me tell you, though, five minutes goes by quickly when you’re writing. If you’re a blogger, why not join the fun??!!)
{MIGHTY}
When I think of the word MIGHTY, the word POWERFUL comes to mind.
I always wanted to be mighty.
As a small girl, to be mighty, I once dressed up as Wonder Woman. I wanted to be Wonder Woman in the worst way. She was so cool.
As a young woman, I still wanted to be mighty.
In fact, I did everything in my power to be. I worked hard. I was competitive, and wanted to be the best. I wore my “power suits” and heels. I let the quest for becoming mighty control everything I did. It led to a heart-to-heart with Jesus.
He got my attention. He showed me that being mighty on my own is prideful and is actually, quite ugly. Being mighty is only possible through Him and through taking on the nature of a servant. It’s not the world’s kind of mighty, or Wonder Woman’s kind of mighty, it’s His Kingdom kind of mighty.
We become mighty when we seek the Lord, when we point others to Him instead of to ourselves, and when we humble ourselves under his MIGHTY hand. What a gift that is.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:6
I’m nothing on my own, but through Jesus, I am in a way, Wonder Woman! And so is every woman who clings to Him.
Blessings to you on this Five Minute Friday!
Julie
