It’s Friday! And with it comes a highlight of my week: Five Minute Friday.
Free-writing for five minutes on a one-word prompt. Proper writing skills are tossed out the window as we allow the words to spill out on the page or on to the keyboard. We gather and share these five minute collections at Kate Motaung’s, and encourage as we go. It’s a blessing to be a part of this community. Join us and be a part of this fun.
This week’s word:
–DREAM–
GO.
As a young girl I would spend many a day dreaming of my future.
What job would I have?
Who would I marry?
Would I have children? How many? Their names?
What kind of house would I live in?
What kind of car would I drive?
It was fun to dream. I couldn’t wait to grow up. I couldn’t wait to see what was ahead for me.
Now that I’m there, reflecting on my life I realize so much of what I thought would be important back then, really isn’t so much now.
The kind of house I live in is unimportant.
So is the kind of car I drive. (Goodness, for a decade I earned cars through my Mary Kay business–even a pink Cadillac. I learned through those years the vehicle you drive has nothing to do with who you are.)
My job isn’t even so important, as I thought it was going to be.
What’s important is my faith in Jesus, my family, and my relationships with others.
And as I look at my life now, dreams are still being fulfilled.
Raising independent, responsible, loving, and God-honoring children.
Being a loving and supportive wife to my husband.
Following my dream to write.
Encouraging others with spoken and written words.
Crossing items off my bucket list.
Dreams. Friend, dream them. Pray over them. Let go of them when necessary, and forge ahead with them when it’s time.
Is there a dream that’s tucked away in your heart? Is it time to bring it out, dust it off, and pursue it??
STOP.
Happy Friday friends!
Julie
Hi Julie! I’m late to the five minute party, but at least I made it! I’m your neighbor this week!
This was so well written and expressed! I love your picture too, it depicts what I think of in the word dream. “A dream that’s tucked away in your heart” – such a comfy expression.
We have something in common (besides writing)! I used to sell Mary Kay also! I loved it – but I didn’t go as far as getting a car – you were something! Wasn’t it fun?!
I’m glad we don’t have to do the same thing our whole life, aren’t you? Dreams change, just like you said, and take different forms and shapes.
Good to see you, as always!
I was late too. Thank you for stopping over, Ruthie. I love that we share a few common threads, including Mary Kay! Yes, dreams change, and when they do, it’s good to give ourselves permission to allow them to. (That’s another blog post subject right there.) Anyway, I appreciate you sharing here. It’s a joy getting to know you! Bless you!
Love your writing. It is always such a challenge to write about one word and without editing and time involved. Good work
Thank you, Sharon! What a blessing it is to have you here. Have a wonderful week!
