The words spilled out of her mouth, and as they did, my heart broke.
“I’m such a loser.”
This person was precious to me and to many others. She was in no way “a loser.”
a loser :: a person who has failed at a particular activity; someone or something that is marked by consistently or thoroughly bad quality, performance, etc.; Slang: a misfit, especially someone who has never or seldom been successful at a job, personal relationship, etc.
I find it sad how often we see ourselves through the eyes of the world. And when we do, we’ll never be pretty enough, smart enough, thin enough, strong enough, rich enough, happy enough, fulfilled enough, popular enough, well-dressed enough, wise enough, tough enough.
It can be easy to see oneself as “a loser” through the eyes of the world.
God’s eyes are different, however. He sees us differently because He created us. He formed us. He knows the number of hairs on our head. He knows us better than we do, and He sees us in ways we may never see ourselves.
God doesn’t create junk and He doesn’t create “losers.”
He sees the gifts He’s placed within us. He sees where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. He sees our heart, our desires, our worthiness, our capabilities, our hopes, our dreams and our everything
Yes, He sees our mistakes, but through Jesus, those mistakes are covered.
Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. Romans 3:24 MSG
Because you and I are His creation, and because of Jesus, we are not losers.
My friend saw her lack. God sees her strengths.
She saw the results of her lapses of judgment. God sees the promises He placed within her.
She saw ugliness. God sees her beauty.
She saw her failures. God sees her potential.
She couldn’t measure up. God says she’s enough.
She saw a mess. God sees progress.
Friend, maybe there’s someone is our lives today who is feeling like a loser. Maybe that person is you. If so, please pause to remember Who created you. Pause to remember how much God loves you. Pause to remember you were made for greatness because of Whose you are. And remind someone else these truths.
You are a masterpiece!
You are a beautiful child of God. You are gifted and talented, and no matter what the world or anyone else tells you (or even what you tell yourself), you are an incredible, one-of-a-kind creation. Bursting at the seams with qualities of royalty. After all, you are a child of the King! You make a difference and you matter.
My friend was reminded that day of her worth. She was reminded God doesn’t create junk or “losers.” I pray we each allow God’s worth to sink deep within us today and in the days to come.
Will you pray with me?
Father God, You are the Masterpiece-Maker. You are the Grand-Designer. You’ve formed everything in this world, and you formed each one of us. Thank you, Father, for making each one of us unique and special, according to your plans and purposes for our lives. We ask you today to help us to see ourselves through Your eyes. Help us to embrace Your perspective of who we are. Help us to lose the label of “loser,” and begin to claim the title of “God’s masterpiece.” Remind us of Your love and acceptance throughout our day, and in the days to come. We love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Rejoicing in the masterpiece you are!
Much love,
Julie
