Faith.
It can be, to some extent, a vague word. Especially when it’s based on each person’s perspective. My faith is pretty simple. To me it’s my trust, belief, and relationship with God through Jesus.
So, what does faith have to do with living a real life?
I say everything.
Looking back on my early years, my faith was in my parents. I believed every word they said, and I trusted them with every part of me. I guess you could call that a child-like faith. Mom and Dad blessed me with a loving home and a wonderful childhood.
As I grew and matured, my faith changed, and I somehow began to put all of it in myself. My teenage years were filled with selfish ambition and life was pretty much about me.
That lasted through my early 20s, until I came face-to-face with the truth of Jesus. My faith took on new meaning. It was no longer based on this life, but it was centered on eternity. It became about the love and hope of Jesus.
My real life was found in faith through Jesus.
Now, before anyone clicks off of this page because I’m sounding “too preachy,” or I’m sounding like I have it all together, I invite you to continue reading.
Yesterday we discussed sharing our story, and I’m attempting to do that here. At least a snippet of mine. God and the people closest to me fully know that I don’t have this faith thing–or real life, for that matter–all figured out. I’m a work in progress. But, my life changed the moment my faith changed. The moment I took a second-look at what following Jesus was really all about. It wasn’t about adhering to a set of rules of cans and can’ts. It wasn’t about me cleaning myself up first. Nor was it about me thinking I was better than anyone else. No. It was about trusting and believing in what God in His Word said about His Son.
I don’t know where you are in all of this. Nor, can I know what or who you’ve put your faith in. But from my personal experience, I understand that life becomes amazingly real when Jesus is at the center of it.
Check out what Jesus said why He was here:
I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. John 10:10b (MSG)
Jesus came so we can have REAL and ETERNAL life beyond our most incredible dreams. Beyond anything we could ever hope to imagine. Not so much in life on this earth, but what’s waiting for us in the next.
That’s real life.
And that’s the life that really matters. We’ll talk more about this in another post to come. But in the meantime, let’s take an honest look at our faith. If you’d like to know more of my story, you can find that here. I’d love to read your story, too. Feel free to some of it below!
So, what does faith have to do with living a real life? Everything.
Blessings,
Julie
This is Day 7 of 31 Days of Living a Real Life. You can find the previous posts here. Thanks for journeying with me!
Faith is trusting in God and knowing God loves me fully with all my imperfections.
Amen and amen! Thanks, Tara.
