191. Clearing Out the Cobwebs When You Feel Dead Inside

by | Apr 1, 2025 | Podcast

I was listening to a podcast the other day and the host mentioned he recently walked through a season where he felt “dead inside.” Maybe you are feeling similarly today, like you’re going through the motions in this life and you’ve lost your peace and joy. You, too, feel dead inside, but maybe you didn’t realize it until hearing these words today. All month long our theme on the podcast here is Spring Cleaning for the Soul. Some of us may do some extensive spring cleaning for our homes at this time of year, so why not do some spring cleaning for our souls? I invite you to journey with me this month as we do some soul care and life refreshment in making room for God’s life-giving power.

This may not be just a physical thing.

Feeling dead inside doesn’t necessarily have to be in a physical sense, and most likely. It can also be feeling emotionally or spiritually dead, like a gaping empty hole inside of us that we can’t describe. Or like the feeling of cobwebs overtaking our mind, heart, or soul.

Let’s pause to ask some questions and answer them honestly:

When was the last time you felt spiritually alive?

Do you feel like you’ve lost touch with what once brought you joy and passion?

Don’t just skim over these questions and go on. Acknowledging where we are can help us become aware of our reality.

What causes us to feel dead inside?

Life’s circumstances of stress, discouragement, disappointment, pain, or even routine can cause us to feel this way. Some days we may just feel like giving up or giving in.

Sometimes spiritual dryness is often a sign of distance from God. Maybe life has gotten so full that we’ve placed God at the end of the line, or on the back burner. Sure, we love Him, but do we spend time with Him?

It’s time to clear out the cobwebs.

I share some soul-cleansing habits and what we can do when we feel dead inside.

Next week I invite you back for our next episode in this series of Spring Cleaning for the Soul where we will venture into dusting off weariness when we’re feeling exhausted. If you’re overwhelmed and exhausted, or know someone who is, this episode will be timely. It’ll drop next Tuesday.

If you feel dead inside today, take heart—God is in the business of resurrection. Stay encouraged, friend. God bless you.
