God, What Are You Doing?

by | May 8, 2010 | God, me

I am clinging to God’s Word today…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

And I like this translation of the same verse…

“I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.”  Jeremiah 29:11 The Message

And I was encouraged to see this verse in my office this morning…

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain what we do not see.”  Hebrews 11:1 NIV

When God shakes things up, it’s an unsettling feeling.  I had the picture come to my mind yesterday of a puzzle…a puzzle that we don’t have the lid to…the picture to see what the finished product is supposed to look like.  God has that lid, that picture.  We don’t even know which pieces fit together sometimes…but He does.  And in my life right now, I can see Him putting one piece of the puzzle together at a time.  When I put a puzzle together, I like to put it together as quickly as possible.  I want to see the finished picture right away! I realize that’s not God’s way of putting a puzzle together though.  He’s not in a hurry, and it takes time to create a beautiful picture…in His time.

I know I must wait.  I must be patient.  I must be ready for the next puzzle piece, so I can see just a little more of the picture.  I must rely on God to put down the pieces, and to make sure I keep myself out of His way, and wait for His next nudging.  I must rely on Him to equip me for what He has for me.  I know someday I’ll see the final picture, and I’ll understand how each piece was put there with His love for me, His plan for my life, and His ultimate purpose.

But until that day, I’ll need to rely on my faith (being sure of what I hope for and certain of what I don’t see) in Him and my trust in Him, and to remember He’s preparing for me the future I hope for.
