Will We Follow God To Where We’re Uncomfortable?

by | Oct 29, 2017 | 31 Days Of Living A Real Life

I don’t believe it’s any coincidence God has prompted me to take a giant leap out of my comfort zone during this Living Real series. In fact, I believe He’s used this series to equip me to follow His lead to a place that makes me nearly want to throw up.

As I venture into uncomfortable, unchartered waters, I continue to ask myself the question,

“Am I willing to follow where God leads me?”

I say I am, but really, am I? All the while praying I’m not being misguided or being led by anything or anyone but Him.

But, inside, I am anxious. Butterflies fill my stomach. It’s been awhile since I’ve felt butterflies like this. From experience I know butterflies come when God’s involved.

Friend, what is it that God is asking you to do? What’s that one thing that just doesn’t leave your mind? What brings a swarm of butterflies to your stomach? You know, I’ve found if it’s something God is calling us to do, it most always causes us to step out to where we’re uncomfortable.

Big breaths, friend. Big breaths.

Living real is following God to where we’re uncomfortable.

Living real is following God to where we're uncomfortable.

Yes, it might even scare us. Yes, it might not make any logical sense. And, yes, we’ll probably feel butterflies. So, what do we do? Do we step out in faith or do we stay where we’re comfortable?

I cling to a few verses in times like this.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG

For you are my rock and my fortress. So, for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me. Psalm 31:3 LEB

I will teach you and tell you the way to go and how to get there; I will give you good counsel, and I will watch over you. Psalm 32:8 VOICE

Will we live real by following God into what’s uncomfortable?

I pray the answer is always yes. We’ll never regret following where God leads us. It’s okay to be uncomfortable. That’s when we and our faith grow!

Let’s take that step together, friend. God’s got us. I’m cheering you on!

Blessings!

Julie

Thank you Julie……..he did bring me to a place, where at one time I would never have gone. At times I thought I must be out of my mind, then he would bring peace and remind me in tangible ways he was with me. My present I don’t want to go there is getting a women’s ministry started where there has not been one for 8 yrs. Many hurt feelings almost anger from women over this. God keeps bringing it back. We will see
where he leads from here. Taking it slow with God.

Oh have you hit the nail on the head with this one! I struggle with my walk matching my talk! I recently wrote a blog post about my “big but”, because there’s usually one right in the middle of my prayers for God to use me. The bottom line is I am afraid to leave my comfort zone! I’m mad at myself for it but it’s the truth. A couple things are brewing right now. First, I’m part of a small group meeting weekly for the revival at our church, for quite some time leading a women’s book study has come to mind, and also providing a lunch/devotion/craft for people who are home during the day in the fellowship hall of my church keeps creeping in. Where all these may lead is scary but I want to “live real by following God Into the uncomfortable”. I pray I will.

Julie, it seems God is the God of “bringing us to the uncomfortable”, right!? I forwarded your post to my daughter this morning. It seem my whole family is in a itchy, uncomfortable place. Your post was so encouraging!

Living real is following God to where we're uncomfortable.
What's that Bible verse? 📖
If your energy’s gone and your to-do list still feels long, take this as permission to exhale.

God isn’t asking for perfection—just your presence.

Rest is holy.
So is grace.

Don't miss this if you could use a belly laugh today! 🤣

This is what happens when you invite on the podcast two friends who you've known you since 5th grade, Sheila and Karen. 🩵

Sheila says it perfectly,
Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “I’m not enough... I’ll never get it right... I’m failing at everything”?

You’re not alone—and those words aren’t the truth.

Join us for She Speaks Life, a special morning created for women just like you—women who are tired of the negative self-talk and ready to replace it with God’s truth. Together, we’ll learn to speak life over ourselves, find freedom in our identity in Christ, and encourage one another in a space full of grace.

Come as you are. Leave refreshed, encouraged, and reminded of the power your words hold.

Bring a friend. There’s a seat for you. 💛

You’re doing better than you think.

One step, one prayer, one small win at a time—
you’re moving forward.

God isn’t grading you.
He’s guiding you, and that's worth noticing and celebrating.
