Taking My Seat On This Adventure With God

by | Mar 31, 2016 | Love God

A question for you today:

Are you a front-row or a back-row person?

When you go to an open event, where do you prefer to sit?

Do you desire a seat in the front because it’s comfortable to you, or is the back row your comfy spot?

I believe we each have a preference, and that might change depending on what kind of audience we’re a part of, and where we find ourselves.

In a big audience, put me somewhere in the middle, preferably on an aisle, and I’m smiling.

In an airplane, I like the front.

In an unfamiliar place, I tend to gravitate toward the back.

When I get to be present whenever my friend and mentor gives a sermon, I like sitting close to the front.

On our tandem bicycle, I’m in back.

At a concert I love the best seat in the house… the front row.

Am I the only one who does this?? Am I the only one who varies my seating preferences based on where I am and what I’m doing??

There’s one place, though, where I always enjoy a front-row seat… on this adventure with God.

If you’ve followed me for any length of time you’ve probably read somewhere along the way how I consider my life one great adventure with the One Who created me.

Some days He’s leading me by the hand, and my step is in line with His. Some days I feel like I’m doing all I can to hang on to Him for dear life. Yet, some days I find we’re stopped together to enjoy the scenery He’s led me to.

In these instances and more, I don’t want to miss one moment. I want to be in the front row soaking everything in.

But there are days my front-row desire gets the best of me, and I find I’ve gotten ahead of God. He calls me to take a back seat and let Him lead. I’m thankful He’s patient with this impatient girl!

I love watching God at work. I love seeing first-hand how He works out all things for His good and for His glory. It amazes me how I’m even able to be a part of it all, and how He allows little ol’ me to be a witness to His splendor.

Whatever seat God leads us to

Whatever seat God leads us to, it’s part of His perfect plan.

As God leads you on your own adventure, He wants to show you more of Him. He wants to take you to places you’ve never encountered before. He wants to lead you to a beautiful destination.

He’ll show you when to take a front seat and when to sit in the back. He’ll guide you to grandiose sights. He’ll lead you to front-row experiences. He’ll restore and replenish you in back-row moments.

Wherever He leads you on this adventure, enjoy the seat you’re in.

You’re with Him, and that’s really all that matters.

Blessings!

Julie

I tend to chose seats up close so I can see and hear that is unless I fear I may be chosen to do something unexpected because I’m so close. You’ve got me thinking this morning that I’m the same way with God. I want to be close unless I sense He might be asking me to step out of my comfort zone. Then, I try and hide in the back. Love your post! Thanks for getting me thinking once again! Cindy

Oh, Cindy. Great thoughts… I’m so glad you shared them. I think you’re in good company with hiding in the back from God. But what joy there is when we’re obedient to His call and we step toward the front! You’ve made me think this morning too. Thank you! Always a blessing to have you here!

I absolutely love this, Julie! This statement: “Whatever seat God leads us to, it’s part of His perfect plan.” YES YES YES!!!! May I always be reminded that wherever He has me on this adventure, at any given time, it’s for a specific purpose! Thank you for this beautiful perspective on the prompt today, and for a timely reminder! #livefreeThursday

Crystal, you are such an encourager. Thank you! I think of Proverbs 3:5-6 as I read your comment. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
