Living In The Moment

by | May 17, 2015 | personal journey, Sunday Truth

I really should be working on grad party details.

I have much to do in the next two weeks as we prepare for our son’s high school graduation celebration.

But I just needed to stop in and share a few words of hope today.

“Needed” is the key word here. Sometimes the words well up inside me so big I feel I’m going to burst.

Such is the case today.

————–

Life can easily distract me.

All too often I relive the events of the past, and my thoughts get stuck there.

Or I look ahead to tomorrow and the future, and my mind swirls and I can easily get overwhelmed. .

In both cases, I miss what’s going on in front of me right now. I miss the present.

I miss the moment I’m in, and the beauty of now.

I shudder to think of the many tiny moments I have missed because I was too preoccupied with looking back or focusing forward. Sigh.

I was sharing these thoughts with my husband yesterday, and his words in response were profound.

Live in the moment

“Don’t ponder the past, or fret about the future. Live in the moment today.”

Amen.

That’s played in this head of mine ever since.

“Live in the moment today.”

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118:24

THIS is the day. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow.

I’ve been consciously telling myself “live in this moment” today. I’ve been noticing the sky, the fluffy white clouds, the smells of spring. I’ve appreciated smiles, laughs, and have intentionally looked people in the eyes. I’ve taken bigger breaths and smaller steps.

Living in the moment feels great.

What helps you rejoice and be glad in this day? What aids you in living in the moment? I’d love to read your ideas below. Who knows? Maybe your suggestion might just be the idea that will help someone else today.

I’m praying for each of us to live in the moment of each day this week.

Have a “rejoice and be glad in it” week, my friend!

Blessings,

Julie

I live in the moment by living simple each day. I look at the sun, moon, trees, birds and all the beautiful things God has made.

Amen! Especially this time of year, as we draw closer to the end of school, I find myself missing what’s right in front of me. I’m busy planning what I will do once school is out and I have more time! Every day on the way to school, I have a conversation with God, committing to Him that I will make the most of the time I have with the people in my life that very day. That helps me see the purpose of each encounter, and appreciate the little moments all throughout the day. Thank you for this topic today, Julie. It’s Monday morning, and I needed it!

Kristine, I love how you have that conversation with God each morning. How simple, yet so important. Thank you for sharing this! May we both appreciate the little moments throughout our days these final weeks of the school year. Blessings to you!

Choose grace instead of guilt
Surrender isn’t about pretending it’s easy—
It’s about trusting anyway.

You don’t have to understand it all.
Just release what was never yours to carry.
That’s where peace begins.

You weren’t meant to do this on your own.
You weren’t created to be your own source.

So if life feels heavy today, come back to the One who holds it all together—and holds you.

Let Him carry what you can’t.

Some women believe surrendering is stifling, or restrictive, or demeaning. Nothing could be more untrue.

When we surrender our will and lives to Jesus, it's then when we find true, abundant life.

What's one area of life you can surrender into His capable hands today?

I used to think surrender was scary.
Now I know what’s really scary…
Me in charge of everything. 😂

Surrender isn’t giving up—it’s getting peace.
Getting direction.
Getting the abundant life I couldn’t create on my own.

Here’s your permission to stop carrying what you weren’t meant to hold. 🙌

Are we holding on tightly or letting go?

Abundant life is a free life- living, breathing, and trusting God has everything under control.

Comment AMEN if you agree.

I hear numerous women say they want to grow their relationship with God, but they aren't sure where to begin.

Sound familiar?

It's not complicated or difficult. Try these rhythms for yourself and watch your relationship with God grow.

Which one speaks the most to you?

Control was never meant to be our burden. 😬

We'll allow God to be in charge instead. (Because really, who are we fooling thinking we're in control, anyway?) 😉

Just a reminder…

Your worth isn’t measured by your productivity, your title, your home, or your highlight reel.

You are valuable because you belong to the One who made you.

That’s it. That’s everything. 💛
