‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving,
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring.
Not even a mouse.
I would freak if I saw a mouse in this house. (Let’s pray that never happens!)
Seriously, though, it’s Thanksgiving eve. I’m home, in my recliner, with my feet up after a full day of decorating, organizing and cleaning.
Yes, I decorated for Christmas. Please don’t judge me. It’s just what I do. (I explained it in this post.)
No one is home at this hour, but soon this house will be bustling. My husband will soon arrive home with dinner in hand. (Yes!) Our son will walk in the door and plop his stuff down after he gets off work in a couple hours. And, our daughter is coming home tonight to spend the night. Yes! She’s coming home! And will be sleeping in her own room. I can’t tell you how that fills my heart with such joy and thankfulness!
When I climb into bed tonight, it’ll be like “old times.” Having all four of us at home again. And morning. How beautiful I imagine that’s going to be… eating breakfast all together. I seriously can’t remember the last time that happened.
And Thanksgiving Day together. I am filled with anticipation of the day!
This girl is thankful for so much tonight.
What about you?
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving eve?
We each have much to be thankful for. May we each recall those things, tonight and tomorrow, and in the days to come.
Friend, may I take this moment to say I’m thankful for you, and for each and every friend I’ve made through this writing journey thus far. You are a blessing to me! You inspire me to continue to write, to share, to be real about life.
It’s a gift to journey alongside of you.
May your Thanksgiving be a blessing!
Much love,
Julie
Dear Julie,
I, too have much for which to be thankful. Even though an episode of severe pain has left me in the midst of temporary amnesia (for me it ‘feels’ like late 1990, and 2014 is a VERY strange place, indeed). I have much to relearn.
I am alive, and while my physical circumstances are not of the best, God can still use me as a channel of His love, grace, and courtesy. There are still sunrises to enjoy, and sunsets over which to linger.
There is my wife, and there are friends. There are my dogs, and there are books. There are the airplane parts scattered through the house, and perhaps one day I will be well enough to work on them again.
Yours in Christ, in hope, and in the spirit and truth of Thanksgiving,
Andrew
Thank you for sharing what you’re thankful for, Andrew. Such blessings!
Beautiful thoughts, Julie. We are pulling all of our decorations down in a few minutes. So glad you are able to enjoy your family together. Mine are all teens … and I am “hanging on” to these moments — knowing there are few left. I can’t image what it will be like to have them essentially gone — and then back. 🙂
Dianne, yes, hang on to these moments. I don’t need to tell you they slip by quickly, do I?? I’m finding God prepares us for whatever stage in life we’re in with our kids. It’s a blessing when they come back home again. Enjoy, my friend!
