God’s Protection Today

Today Zach and I were driving home from church, lunch, and shopping and I remembered that Bill had asked me to pick up an item for him that he needed. I almost forgot!

Thinking about which stores on our way home would had this particular item, I came up with Target or Hy-Vee Drugstore. Knowing my shopping habits at Target, and also knowing how I can spend more time than I need to in that store, I decided Hy-Vee Drugstore would be quicker, and would more likely have the item Bill wanted.

A little off our path, we pulled into Hy-Vee, found what we needed, and were on our way again.

By this time, snow had been falling for a good 30 minutes. Roads were starting to get slick. As I drove carefully down the interstate, many vehicles were passing me.

“Seriously?  Do these people realize how slick it is here?”

We were approaching downtown and the first curve. More vehicles passed me, despite the fact I was going the speed limit.

Up ahead, near the second curve I could see brake lights and flashing lights from a police car.  Sliding over to the right lane, we were able to take the next exit ramp and avoid what was up ahead. As we did, I could see a car side-ways in the road, and other cars sprawled here and there. It looked like it had happened just a handful of minutes before.

It hit me.

By stopping by Hy-Vee for those few minutes, we were able to avoid that accident. If we would have continued down the road to the Target on our way home, we could have been in the middle of all of it…which would have been minutes earlier!

I shared that revelation with Zach, and we both became very grateful.

I don’t believe in “coincidences” and I don’t believe in “luck.”  I don’t believe in “happenstance.” I firmly believe God is in the details of all of our lives…big and small.  His Word says that in many ways, again and again. I believe God protected us today, by helping me make the decision which store to go to.  I’m very thankful for that tonight!

With all  your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow. Proverbs 3:5-6 CEV
