Talking With God

Prayer: The privilege of talking with God.

Prayer: The privilege of talking with God.

Talking with God.

God…the Creator of the universe. The One who formed each of us in our mother’s womb. The King of Kings. The Lord of Lords. The One who calls out the stars each night by name. The Almighty One. Our Protector. Our Defender. Our Redeemer. The Lover of our souls. God.

We get the privilege of talking with Him.

And He wants us to do so.

That’s a humbling thought, isn’t it?

I began praying as a child. I was taught specific prayers to memorize. Some of those prayers I didn’t understand, and some words were too big for my little mind to comprehend. But, I can see those prayers were the beginning of my prayer life. I thank God Mom taught us four kids to get on our knees around one of our beds each night and pray together.

Years later, I began to understand I could talk to God in plain, everyday language. What a difference that made!

I now go to God with anything and everything. I share my frustrations with Him, my fears, my thoughts (He knows them anyway). I give Him my weaknesses, my struggles, my self-absorbed will. I praise Him and I thank Him. All in Jesus’ name.

Over the years I’ve seen what can happen through prayer. I’ve seen how God has answered again, and again. It’s not the prayers I pray, but the One I pray to… the One True God of the Bible.

Not the prayers I prayIt’s also a privilege to pray for others. To go to God on their behalf.

When someone pops into my mind as I’m putting my makeup on, or in the shower in the morning, or while I’m driving, etc., I’ve learned to pray for them right then. I may not know the situation, but God knows. And that’s what matters.

Praying has become natural to me over these years. I find myself talking to God throughout my day (in my head most often). And sending up small little arrow prayers when something’s urgent like, “God, please give me the words to encourage this person,” etc.

Yet, I’ve also seen how not all of my prayers are answered in the way I expect or want, or in my timing. I can trust God’s plans, as He always does what’s best for His people. It may not seem like it in our eyes or minds, but His plans are best for us.

God sees the big picture. We don’t.

Our prayers don't have to be perfect.

Our prayers don’t have to be perfect. We can just talk to God like we would a friend.

He’ll never be too busy for you, and you can talk to Him anytime. He’s always with you. No One cares for, or loves you more than He does.

I’d love to read ideas on how you talk to God below. If you’re not in the habit of doing so, today’s a great day to begin.

You’ll be blessed in doing so.

Julie

Somedays it's easy to put God on the back burner. Without God's Word renewing our minds, we can slip into defaulting to wordly and anxious thinking. In fact, that's always what our brains will do.

Today is a good day to renew our minds again. Let's open our Bibles and see what God has to say. It can literally change our lives and our perspectives.

Are you looking at your life through a smudged window? 🪟

Negative thoughts. Discouragement. Comparison.

Sometimes they blur the view and make us forget what’s true.

But God invites us to see life through His eyes—full of hope, purpose, and peace.

Feeling a little discouraged today?

You’re not forgotten. You’re not overlooked.
God is still near—still providing, still working, still weaving good into your story.

You don’t have to figure it all out.
Just take the next step, trust His timing, and know this:
He hasn’t let go of you.

Sometimes all it takes is one frustrating moment to shift our whole mood, right?
But wait... maybe the whole day isn’t bad… maybe it's just a rough patch.

Let’s zoom out today.
There’s still good here.
There’s still joy to be found.
Don’t let five minutes steal 24 hours.

Today can still be a great day.

I woke in awe today because in those first eye-opening moments, I pondered the truth of Easter.

Jesus defeated death... for me. For me.

Why? How? All the things I've done, said, thought... I am undeserving of this kind of gift.

But I guess that's the point, isn't it? If I deserved it, it wouldn't mean as much as it does today. He rose from the grave because I didn't deserve it. He rose from the grave, so someday I will, too. In the meantime, because I believe in this truth, I get to live in the hope of eternal life with Him. Forever.

What a hope. What a love. What a Savior.
