My mind is spinning tonight…
We buried my friend Marge today. It was a packed and beautiful service. There I saw so many people from my past from my hometown. People I haven’t seen for years. People whom I was blessed to see and have conversations with. People whom I may not see again for a very long time. I witnessed Marge’s beautiful family–her husband and four children say goodbye to their wife and mom. It brought me to tears. I watched as Marge’s parents, siblings and extended family said goodbye to her as well. My heart broke for all of them. When I gave my condolences to her father, he remembered me, hugged me, kissed my forehead and thanked me for coming. He asked me if I saw “the kids,” as he pointed to his other grown children. I said I did, and how proud of them he must be.
Marge would have turned 45 next Monday. Too young in my opinion to be called home. But God’s timing isn’t our timing, is it? He’s sovereign. He’s in control. What a glorious eternity she must be experiencing now, as we here on earth grieve her earthly death.
My sister-in-law’s mom had surgery yesterday to remove a mass in her chest. I couldn’t think of anything else but my sister-in-law and her beautiful mom yesterday morning. Many people were praying for them, including me. I couldn’t wait to read an update text from her as soon as the surgery was over. Thankfully the mass wasn’t attached to her lungs, and she came through the surgery fine. It sounds like things are going well with her recovery today. I praise God for such a great report! Again, God is in control.
I’m thinking of the MercyMe concert our family attended last night. What a joyous evening! In light of Marge’s death, this concert helped me again put things in perspective. We really have nothing without Jesus. All the other stuff this world offers really doesn’t matter. We had such a wonderful time, with so many great friends! I have a new favorite song from them, You Are I Am.
I am thankful I “ran into” my oldest brother, Marty today…in the most unlikely place. I stopped, parked the Envoy, got out, and talked with him for about a half hour. We don’t get many opportunities to do that anymore. His wife joined us, too, for awhile. He’s pretty special to me…I need to tell him that more often.
And lastly, as I was in the middle of writing this, I was blessed to receive a phone call from my friend Patty tonight. Out of the blue, it was a gift to hear her voice come through my phone. I’m thankful God brought us back in touch with each other, and I’m thankful for our wonderful conversation I enjoyed this evening. She is a light in my life!
Ok, you got my random thoughts here tonight. As I wrap this up, I sit back and soak in my family. I’m thankful for them. I praise God for them. I pray His will is for us to live a long life together, to enjoy each other, and to be a family that loves Him and loves others. My heart tonight is focused on them and the people in my life. How I want to tell each of them how very special they are to me, and how very much I love and appreciate them. I’ll start with my family this evening. And if you’re a part of my life, I thank God for you! I love and appreciate YOU!
Thanks for journeying through life with me!
