A Pause of Peacefulness

by | Jul 29, 2014 | Encouragement

Nacho cheese Doritos are my weakness lately.

I just arrived home from work, and I dangerously have an opened bag sitting next to me and my laptop.

If I’m not careful, they could be my dinner.

But I needed this moment this afternoon. Doritos and all.

I needed a pause of peacefulness. I needed to just sit and breathe.

What a gift… Windows open. Low humidity, and mid-70 degrees. A refreshing, light breeze finding its way in through the window screens. It sure doesn’t feel like the last week of July. I’m cherishing it.

backyard editedCrickets chirping, birds singing beautiful melodies, the whistle of a train in the distance.

At this very moment, life doesn’t get any better.

I have been on the go much lately, with preparing for RAGBRAI, riding RAGBRAI, decompressing after RAGBRAI. I haven’t had a moment, it seems, to breathe.

I’m pausing to do that this afternoon.

With my Doritos.

And it feels wonderful. I wish you were here to experience it with me.

I imagine you’ve been on the go as well. Working to make ends meet. Trying to balance a career, your home, and the many other things that are on your plate. Potty training, bottle washing, missing sleep. The thought of a pause of peacefulness sounds too good to be true.

I get it. I’m with you.

I am praying for you as I pause today. I pray you carve out a few minutes to pause, to breathe, to just be. You need it. I need it.

With or without Doritos.

Okay, I’m having some fun with the Doritos, but seriously, soak in what’s going on around you. The sights, the sounds, the things you might normally take for granted.

Experience them. Appreciate them. Thank God for them.

For a few splendid moments, everything else can wait.

Before we know it, the doorbell will ring, the children will need us, the work deadline will be approaching, dinner will need to be made. But the peace we experience in small moments like these, give us just what we need to carry us through.

God will bless us in those moments if we allow Him to.

Will you pray with me?

Heavenly Father, we pause for a moment to catch our breaths, to stop the running, the chasing, the activity of life. Meet us in this moment. Open our eyes and ears to You and to the many gifts You’ve blessed us with. We thank you for each one of them. Thank you for reminding us we need moments like this… a pause of peacefulness. Equip us the rest of this day to serve You and those You’ve placed in front of us. We love you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God bless you!

Julie (& my Doritos!)

Ah, sounds wonderful! To have a few moments of peace – and to enjoy the outdoors! You inspired me to take some time to just ‘be’ last night after I got the little one to bed. No projects, no reading, no catching up on missed webinars, no writing. Just soaking in the silence with God. Much needed time!

I would love to be there with you too. I don’t eat Doritos very often but it’s sounding lovely right now. Just reading your words are helping me to pause, reflect and breath in. It really all can wait, can’t it? Thank you for this pause of peacefulness, friend. You bless. xoxo

This is a much needed word for today Julie. We sure keep busy, don’t we? Reading your post reminded me it’s not even all of our doing, but rather just doing life in general. Glad to have friends like you to do life (and this blogging life 🙂 ) with. Thanks for the reminder to breathe.
