Hey, I might have something in common with the Proverbs 31 woman after all!
After a few weeks of studying the account of this godly woman and her life, I’ve found myself learning much. Instead of comparing myself, and making myself feel bad for not being like her, I’ve taken the first few verses and allowed them to help me. I hope you’re doing the same.
This week, Proverbs 31:15 gives me a glimmer of hope!
She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day. – Proverbs 31:15 (The Message)
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a “morning person.” There were years I used to get up at 4:30 a.m. (Yes, crazy…I know!) I don’t rise quite that early these days, but I still get up before anyone else does in my family. Since my son is our only child still living at home, and his wake up times are as late as possible, I find I have extended time in the mornings compared to just a few years ago.
It’s in those morning hours when the house is quiet that I have my time alone with God, reading His Word, praying and listening. It’s the time I prepare spiritually for my day. Without it, my day feels empty, out of balance, and quite frankly, a mess.
This is also the time I plan my day, plan my writing, and make sure I’m on top of deadlines, etc. It’s my favorite part of the day.
Could this be the way the Proverbs 31 Woman started her day?
Growing up, my mom made our mornings special. I thought every kid had mornings like us. Mom, in her sweet, loving voice, would personally wake me up for school. She always made sure we ate breakfast. Every school morning (and I do mean every), she would make for me two sunny-side up eggs, two pieces of bacon and two pieces of buttered toast. And amazingly, she would have it ready on the table when I came downstairs before leaving for the day. Without fail.
So, I followed Mom’s example. Even though he’s seventeen, I still wake our son myself, and make sure he has breakfast each morning. His choice, and ready on time.
Quite possibly your mornings are different. And that’s okay. Let’s not compare ourselves. Let’s encourage one another. After all, that’s what these Woman to Woman Wednesdays are all about. This is just what I do and what works for us.
If you aren’t already, find at least a small amount of time to begin your day with God. Read a devotion. Read a scripture passage. Read my blog. Pray, even if it’s on the way to work. Listen for God’s guidance. Starting my day off like that makes all the difference.
I’d love to read of your morning routine if you care to share below. Share ideas. Give encouragement to other readers. And if needed, allow Proverbs 31:15 to help you.
May God continue to bless you, sweet friend!
Julie
(It’s Woman to Woman #W2W) Wednesday where we pause life for a moment and just talk, woman to woman. We are working through Proverbs 31:10-31. Next week we’ll look at verses 16-17. Linking up with 4hisgloryblog.com and holleygerth.com.)
I love that you wake your son! My mom used to do that too, along with breakfast. Most amazing way to wake up, ever! My children are small right now, but I plan to keep doing this until they leave our nest. I love how you tied Pr. 31:15 to this. Although I have read it many times, it never occurred to me this way. Thank you! Blessings to you & yours!
Hi Kaylene! Our mornings are some of our most precious times together here in our home. My heart smiles with your words! You’ll never regret waking your children in the mornings and having breakfast with them! Thank you for your encouraging words today. Blessings to you and yours as well!
Oh Julie, I am so not a morning person. LOL. But my husband is, so we balance each other out, I guess? I do wake my son up for school, though, and get his breakfast ready, etc. I guess there’s hope for me. 😉 You’re right though, that quiet time is so important! I take mine during nap time. Thanks for giving me a glimpse of your day!
Abby, thank you for sharing how your day plays out. My husband isn’t a morning person either, and we balance each other out too. There’s not a right or wrong way to be. We just are who we are…who God made us to be. When my children were younger, I had my quiet time at nap time as well. That’s what worked for me. We have different seasons of life, and often times we find what works best through trial and error. I’m glad you are who you are! 🙂
I’m a morning person, too. My day just doesn’t go right when I don’t have my precious quiet moments with the Lord before everyone is up. Blessings to you, Julie!
I agree, Sabra. I really need that time in the morning for so many reasons. It truly blesses me. I’ll be thinking about you during my quiet time tomorrow morning! Have a nice Memorial Day, friend!
Hi Julie, I’m another morning person! I TRY to get up at 5:30 these days. Sometimes that’s challenging because Turks are into late nights, so I fight the current when I can by getting to bed at 10:30. I have my quiet time, spend 30 minutes writing, go on a prayer walk, and pray with my husband before breakfast at 8:00. We wake our kids at 7:00.
Betsy, I love your routine, and I appreciate you sharing it! I also love that you pray with your husband each morning. What an example that is for your kids as well! Thank you for the glimpse into your morning. So encouraging!
