“Thankfulness takes the sting out of adversity.”
Yesterday on our way home from our Thanksgiving trip to Missouri, I read the above in a tweet from Jesus Calling. I was in pain most of the trip home, and after reading that, I almost laughed. (I was in too much pain to do so.) I couldn’t get comfortable, no matter how hard I tried.
I’ve been dealing with this cough for over three weeks, and on Thursday (Thanksgiving) morning, I had a coughing spell in our hotel room which was one of the worst ones I’ve had. I felt something “give” on my right side next to my ribs. The pain began immediately, and hasn’t gone away yet. I have brief moments of being pain free, but they are few and far between. After doing some searching, I made a self-diagnosis of a pulled muscle in my ribs.
This has affected everything I do. Coughing is even more painful. I sneezed this morning and thought my side was going to explode!
I was feeling earlier like I have wasted the day away, trying to rest and let my body heal. But I’ve given myself permission to get over it and be ok with resting. And I was reminded of the above tweet from yesterday.
I have much to be thankful for! We all do! If you haven’t already, I suggest writing down all the things you are thankful for, then thank God for each one!
Some of the things I’m thankful for at this very moment are:
- my family
- my friends
- a great Thanksgiving trip to Missouri
- my extended family
- Jesus & God’s Word
- my health and the parts of my body that are pain free and functioning
- our warm home
- our jobs and schools
- the way God made me
- our freedom
- God’s sovereignty
- the health of Bill, Ali & Zach
- Mission of Hope and my friends there
- Tina
- my life!
