In Case You’re Wondering, There Is More To Life Than This

by | Aug 4, 2020 | Love God, Real Life

My last post got some of us thinking as I shared the story of when I voiced driving to work one day, “there’s got to be more to life than this.” It got me thinking, too, about life today. In these troubled and turbulent times. As the devastation of this pandemic stares us in the face. As tensions rise and divisions in our country surface. It’s an unsettling, uneasy, uncharted time in this world and in our lives.

Really, is this all there is?

Now, please don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to come off here ungrateful or unappreciative of this life. I’m thankful for my life and the many blessings God has given me. I’m ever so grateful for the people I get to do life with, for the work I get to do, for my health, happiness, and the hope I have. Life isn’t perfect over here, but it’s good. Thanks be to God.

But, in this difficult, unsettling season, we may wonder such questions and ponder such thoughts. Is there more to life than what we are walking through now? Is this all there is to life? There’s got to be more to life than this!

Well, good news! There IS more to life than this. More than what we’re experiencing today, or reading in the headlines, or watching on our devices, or seeing in statistics. Life is more than the nightly news, the pandemic stats, the riots and divisions, the here and now. It’s even more than what we own, what we do, where we live, what we drive, or where we vacation.

Life is so much more than we can currently see. Oh, thanks be to God! Because if this was all there is, it would be difficult to keep a proper perspective and an uplifted attitude most days. (That’s sometimes difficult for me, anyway.) Yes, there is more to life than what’s in front of us, and truthfully, this truth is what I cling to, especially during these challenging and uncertain days.

In case you're wondering, there is more to life than this

There IS more to life than this.

Because friend, this is not our home.

But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.

Philippians 3:20-21 MSG

And what we’re experiencing here won’t last forever. What we can’t see, however, will last for eternity.

So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 MSG

Our lives here on earth are short, but we will live forever in our eternal home. And the glory we will experience there will be unfathomable. We can’t comprehend it! But this verse right here excites me:

I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared, and so had the sea. Then I saw New Jerusalem, that holy city, coming down from God in heaven. It was like a bride dressed in her wedding gown and ready to meet her husband. I heard a loud voice shout from the throne: God’s home is now with his people. He will live with them, and they will be his own. Yes, God will make his home among his people. He will wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death, suffering, crying, or pain. These things of the past are gone forever. Then the one sitting on the throne said: I am making everything new. Write down what I have said. My words are true and can be trusted.

Revelation 21:1-5 CEV

Can you imagine our “more to life than this”?

Friend, can you even imagine this? I can’t, but I can’t wait to see it all with my own eyes. What excites me, maybe the most is this: God’s home is now with his people. He will live with them, and they will be his own. Oh, how I can’t wait for that day.

It’s this hope that keeps me going. It’s this hope that can spur you and me on, to keep putting one foot in front of the other, as we keep our eyes fixed on heaven. There is more to life than this! And what awaits us will be absolutely incredible!

Jesus tells us He’s the way, the truth, and the life. He’s the reason why we have this hope. It’s because of Him you and I can know there is more to life than this. He’s the reason you and I will see God face to face. What a hope we have in Jesus!

In the meantime, we keep on keeping on. We cling to truth to encourage our souls. We pray, we read, we encourage one another. And, we wait and work while we anticipate the “more to life than this.”

Stay encouraged, friend. Keep the faith. Keep shining the light of this truth in your corner of the world. And tell someone else today that there is more to life than this. So much more.

Much love to you!
