Have you ever had one of those days were you just needed some peace and quiet, yet the world had something else in mind for you? I think we’ve all experienced days like that. Sometimes the world can be so loud, noisy and distracting. Sometimes it can be so demanding of our time, our talents and our treasures!
As I was getting ready for my day today at 8am, I heard the sound of a front-loader moving closer and closer to my bedroom window. I knew at that point my quiet day was coming to a screeching halt. I wake up early each morning, and the main reason I do is for some quiet time. I pray, I read, I exercise (some days), and I do things to start my day off positively. I’m glad I had that time early today, despite the fact that we stayed up after midnight to watch gymnastics at the Olympics on t.v, and I only got about five hours of sleep! 🙂 I’m glad I had that time, because noise would fill the rest of my day.
Why noise? Well I have to say first off that I’m thankful for the noise I’m hearing at our home today as I sit in my office working. We are getting a new roof put on our home…which we are long overdue for! My husband, his dad Don, his uncle Dale, his brother Mike, his cousin Lance and two nephews Brandon and Evan, are all working diligently to put on the roof! I’m hearing nail guns, hammers, footsteps, lots of pounding and sawing. This noise is a productive noise, and I’m so thankful our family works together on these kinds of projects! We are truly blessed!
But what can we do with noise from the world that we don’t like? We can try to ignore it, we can try to cover it up, we can try to get rid of it, we can try to change it. I found a different answer in Zephaniah 3:17 (New International Version)…”The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Did you catch that? HE WILL QUIET YOU WITH HIS LOVE! How have I missed this message up until this point? God will quiet me with His love. All I need to do is allow God to love me. Allow Him access to my heart. So even if the world around me is loud and clanging, I can rest assured He will quiet me. That’s really all I can control–what I do, not what the world does!
So amongst the sound of nail guns, hammers and saws…I’m allowing God’s love to quiet me today. What a great feeling of peace! And, by the way, I truly am thankful for the noise here today, and thankful for our family who’s giving of their time and talent so we can have a new roof!
May your day be a “quiet” one!
Julie
