Today is a very special day in our family…Zach is turning 12! Yes, I can’t believe my baby (he would not appreciate me calling him that in public!) is 12 years old! My little boy is not so little anymore. It saddens me with how fast time has gone, yet I’m thrilled for what a fine young man he is growing up to be! I know God has big plans for his life…I’m looking forward to seeing them unfold!
This morning I was thinking back to twelve years ago today. Easter that year was on the 30th, and that was actually my due date. We had an Easter egg hunt at our home that morning with some of my friends and their children. I remember it vividly…it was a Thursday. I remember Ali was almost three years old, and she was so excited to have her friends over and even more excited to have the egg hunt! How cute they all were! It was a beautiful sunny and somewhat warm day.
I remember being very uncomfortable most of the morning, and contractions started early afternoon/late morning. As the day grew on, I knew we’d be making the trip to the hospital later that day. Sure enough, we got to the hospital around 4:30, and things were progressing quickly. I had an epidural when Ali was born, and wanted to make sure I had one with this birth as well. However, something happened during labor with Zach that made the epidural wear off, and in the heat of labor, I could feel EVERYTHING! It went quickly though, and before I knew it, at 10:28 p.m. our precious baby was born! Zach was 9 lbs. 5 oz. and 22.5 inches long! What a beautiful baby he was!
I have cherished these last twelve years, but I can honestly say I feel like I’ve blinked and now Zach is 12! Never did I think that twelve years ago tonight, as I was in the hospital delivering our baby, that twelve years later he would be having a birthday party with three of his soccer buddies Gary, Daniel and Alex! These four have so much fun together! Zach is having a blast as I write this!
Like I’ve mentioned, twelve years have gone by so quickly. I sometimes need to remind myself to enjoy each moment and to live in each moment with our children. I am thanking God today for the young man Zach is, and I’m honored that God has allowed me to be his mom!
Happy 12th Birthday Zach! I love you! “You’re the best boy in the world!” 🙂
