7 Truths For When You’re Having A Rough Day

by | Apr 25, 2018 | Love God

Experiencing a rough day? Or know someone who is?

We all have days that may be challenging and difficult, even though we’d rather not.

Situations happen beyond our control. The cat gets sick on the carpet. The train is running late. Your coffee maker decided to quit brewing this morning. (Yikes!)

Outside influences affect us or our circumstances. We receive an unpleasant phone call. Someone cuts us off in traffic. A quarrel with our spouse begins our day.

Small inconveniences pop up and can turn into big messes quickly. The car keys can’t be found. Coffee is spilled on white pants. A wrong turn makes us late for an appointment.

And when multiple instances happen similar to these in a day, it can become rough and deflating and depleting.

What can we do to make a rough day better?

We may not be able to change our circumstances, but we can change our attitude. We can adjust what we focus on.

7 Truths for When You're Having a Rough Day

7 Truths For When You’re Having a Rough Day

1 – God’s has good plans for you.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Eternal, “plans for peace, not evil, to give you a future and hope—never forget that. At that time, you will call out for Me,and I will hear. You will pray, and I will listen. Jeremiah 29:11-12 VOICE

2 – God is with you.

For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. Zephaniah 3:7 NLT

3 – God cares for you.

So bow down under God’s strong hand; then when the time comes, God will lift you up. Since God cares for you, let Him carry all your burdens and worries. 1 Peter 5:6-7 VOICE

4 – God is ready to help you.

God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him. Psalm 46:1 MSG

5 – God strengthens you.

He gives strength to those who are tired and more power to those who are weak. Isaiah 40:29 NCV

6 – God equips you.

Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. Matthew 6:34 MSG

7 – God guides you as you trust Him.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG

Did you notice the common component in each of these? Yes, God. When we look to God in those days that are rough, we won’t just survive them. He’ll give us the ability to thrive! We don’t have to walk through rough days alone ever again.

Share these truths with someone who could use some thriving today. Maybe that someone is you.

Blessings!

A lot of God and a little sense of humor can help us get through “one of those days”! Like the day the grocery store clerk dropped a 2 liter bottle of pop and it exploded all over me!! Yep! Pop dripping from my hair, my nose, running in my ears, all over my clothes. Had an hour drive home with my eyelashes stuck to my eyelids! Nothing to do but laugh!

Being where your feet are doesn't have to be quiet or serious.

Sometimes, it's clanging spatulas, giggling grandsons, and worship music on full blast.

This is abundance.
This is presence.
This is joy in the now.

Let’s not miss the sacred in the silly.

You’re not behind.
You’re not late.
You’re not too much or not enough.
You’re here.

And here is sacred ground when God walks with you.
Stay present, friend.
There’s peace in the now. ✈️💛

Ever find yourself mentally time-traveling to the past, future, and everywhere but the present? 🙋‍♀️ Same. But the peace we're chasing? It’s only found right here, right now—with God.

Today, let’s choose to be fully where our feet are. 💛

Peace hits different when it’s rooted in surrender.
It’s not about everything being “figured out”—
It’s about knowing the One who holds it all.

You’re not who you were.
You’re walking (or driving 😉) in freedom.
And girl, it looks good on you.

It happens to the best of us, especially us women. Our thoughts can not only distract us, but they can derail us. 🥴

But we don't have to let them.

Say this prayer the next time your thoughts distract you. There's nothing like inviting God in!

Are you where your feet are today? Could you use a little help in staying present?

We continue on in our Summer of Abundance series on the Encouragement for Real Life Podcast today, and in episode 206, which dropped earlier this morning, we explore the fifth element of abundant life: Purposeful Presence. You might guess it's a subject I'm passionate about.

This episode is for you if you're tired of life passing you by and if you're ready to live more in the moment. In this snippet, I share Purposeful Presence in three categories, which is a great place to begin. Find the full 23-minute episode wherever you listen to podcasts or @julielefebure.

No matter what last week looked like… this one holds new beauty, new purpose, and new grace.

So water what matters.
Tend to your heart.
And trust that God is growing something good—even if you can’t see it yet. 🌸
