5 Truths For When You Are Discouraged

by | May 19, 2017 | Love God

Not so long ago I found myself deeply discouraged.

A physical ailment appeared out of nowhere. As it continued to worsen, my attitude followed. I began feeling helpless, frustrated, and confused. Hopelessness set in as there was nothing I could do to make it better.

As we journey through this life we may find deep potholes on our path and unexpected roadblocks on our route. Twists and turns may catch us off guard, and sometimes construction causes us to pause longer than we desire to. There are bumps in the road, detours to follow, and the terrain can get steep and rocky.

There are numerous reasons to be discouraged.

But, something happens when we lift our eyes. Something changes in our perspective when we shift our focus from what we see on the path to the One Who is leading us by the hand.

Sure, there may be numerous reasons to be discouraged, but there are countless more reasons to stay encouraged.

When we fix ourselves on following God’s lead, the bumps, the roadblocks, the potholes don’t seem so discouraging anymore.

We can trust God will lead us safely.

God’s Word contains many truths for when we find ourselves discouraged. These below spoke straight to my heart, and as a result, the discouragement disappeared.

If you’re finding yourself in this place today, may these truths do the same for you.

5 Truths For When You Are Discouraged

5 Truths For When You Are Discouraged

1  –  Walk by faith.

The path we walk is charted by faith, not by what we see with our eyes. 2 Corinthians 5:7 VOICE

2  –  You can do all things in Christ’s strength.

I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 NCV

3  –  Look for the good and the beautiful.

We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan. Romans 8:28 VOICE

4  –  He strengthens those who are weak.

He strengthens those who are weak and tired. Even those who are young grow weak; young people can fall exhausted. But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak. Isaiah 40:29-31 GNT

5  –  Trust God.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG

Place these truths where you will see them. Underline them in your Bible, and if you journal, write them there. When you find more in scripture, add them to your encouraging list.

Clinging to these truths didn’t change my circumstance, but they did, however, change my perspective. Consequently, that made all the difference.

Discouragement disappears when we find encouragement through God’s Word.

Feel free to add other truths to this list in the comments below. If I can pray for you, please let me know that too.

God bless you as you continue on your journey.

Much love,

Julie

Look for the good and beautiful is so key for me when I’m discouraged. It’s one of the reasons I still keep my 1000 Gifts journal every day! Great encouragement!

Crystal, I’ve never done the 1,000 Gifts exercise. But, I think it’s something I should start. Looking for the beautiful and good always helps me stay encouraged and thankful. Thank you for giving me the nudge I need. Thanks also for hosting us each Friday. Blessings, friend!
