A Good News Day – Celebrate God’s Blessings

by | Jun 27, 2016 | Good News

Good news makes you feel better. Your happiness will show in your eyes. Proverbs 15:30 NCV

It’s a good day to celebrate God’s blessings.

Celebrate God's BlessingsI have some good news to share today.

But before I do, after last week’s post, I realized we don’t share our good news and God’s blessings in our lives as much as we could. We all have much to be thankful for, and sometimes those things can get buried under the yuck of life. Even the small, everyday kind of blessings are worth sharing and celebrating, and it’s sometimes those blessings that matter the most.

I loved the good news my friend Holly shared last week:

“It’s a good news day because I am able to get out of bed, drink clean water, exercise even though I don’t want to, and go to work. My kids are happy and healthy, my grands are adorable, and my parents are still with me. I am loved beyond measure by our Father. Not much more I can ask for, right?”

Amen, my friend!

Doesn’t Holly’s good news make us smile? Doesn’t it inspire us to look at our own lives and be thankful for the many ways God has blessed us?

Let’s do that again today.

Let’s fill this space with good news.

What good news can you share today? How has God blessed you? What in your life is a cause for celebration? Have you achieved something? Have you conquered a fear? Have you experienced a breakthrough in an area of your life? Did your child use the potty chair for the first time? (That brings back great memories for me!) I invite you to fill the comments below with good news.

Okay, so here’s my good news: My husband and I over the weekend crossed over the 600-mile mark on our tandem bicycle this season! Yes, 600 miles so far! That’s just plain crazy. That would be like like traveling from Chicago to Baltimore. Or from our home in Iowa to our favorite vacation spot in Pensacola Beach. I thank God for the ability to bike, and I am grateful we get to do it together. We’re sure having fun out there on the trails and roads!

So, today, may we notice the good news all around us. May we seek to find the good, even when the yuck tries to crowd it out. May we bless others, and share the good we’ve been blessed with. May we celebrate God’s blessings all day long, and help others to do the same.

Thank you for spending a few moments with me here today. As always, it’s a joy to journey through this life with you!

Have a celebrate-God’s-blessings kind of day!

Much love,

Julie

    OH. my. goodness.
That’s a lot of pedaling, and I love the image of you guys on a tandem — romantic and sporty all in one.
Your words are a bright spot here on the internet, and I’m thankful for your determination to see all of life through the lens of the gospel’s good news.

Hi Michele! Yes, we’ve done a lot of pedaling… it’s been a challenge and a blast, all at the same time. My intention is to see the good in this life, and hope to share it on Mondays on my blog. Really, even with all the bad, there is still so much good in the world. Thanks for popping over for a few minutes and for sharing. Always a joy to have you here!

Love your good news! Mine is that I just ate a delicious lunch with my kids, got to meet a friend for prayer this morning, and I get to go on a coffee date with my husband! You’re so right. We need to look for good news all around us! Pinning this!

I have loved watching the tandem travels of you and your husband. I love bike riding but at this point could never travel as far as you do. Sharing good news is a way to spread a happiness that becomes contagious if we keep it going. I love your idea of spending good news. Jennifer Dukes Lee has a new book coming out in August called The Happiness Dare. Another beautiful way to point to good and God.

Today I woke up with beautiful sunshine, clear blue skies and the possibility of what the day can bring. That is good!

That IS good, Mary! Love your good news. Yes, my intention is to share good news on Mondays. I’ve heard of Jennifer’s book. I’ll have to grab myself a copy when it comes out. Thanks for stopping over and sharing. It’s always a joy to have you here. (I’m still laughing at how I misread your tweet yesterday!) Much love to you.

I love seeing the pics of you, your hubby, and your biking adventures on FB. What an amazing accomplishment!! My good news is that it summer, my family is healthy, we have a beautiful swimming pool to rescue us from the 106 degree SoCal heat, and there are chocolate chip cookies in the pantry (which I of course eat in moderation). Thanks for letting us shout the good news today – God is always good!!

Amen, Tiffany. God IS always good. Love reading your good news, as I rejoice with you! I’d love your pool… I’m a bit jealous. Stay cool! This reminds me just how much each of us can be thankful for! So glad you stopped by and shared. Have a blessed day!

Loved this post, Julie. Yes, we need to share our good news. And your news about pedaling 600 miles?! Whoa. That’s A-MA-ZING!! way to go!

For me, good news is overflowing. While on vacation, I was able to walk 7 miles in Philadelphia one day, and 5 miles in Washington DC on another day. My husband and boys are healthy. And the good (but sometimes hard news) is that my son confessed something hard to me. I’m so beyond blessed to have a relationship with my boys where they still talk to me, even about the humbling things.

Thank you, Jeanne. I loved reading your good news! That’s amazing all the walking you’ve done, and wasn’t it that long ago you had surgery?? It sounds like you have a beautiful relationship with your sons. What a gift for you and for them! I’m rejoicing with you in your good news! So glad you stopped over to share. May your week finish full of blessings! Much love to you.

So many women are waiting for the right time—for more clarity, less chaos, or a better version of themselves.

I woke in awe today because in those first eye-opening moments, I pondered the truth of Easter.

Jesus defeated death... for me. For me.

Why? How? All the things I've done, said, thought... I am undeserving of this kind of gift.

But I guess that's the point, isn't it? If I deserved it, it wouldn't mean as much as it does today. He rose from the grave because I didn't deserve it. He rose from the grave, so someday I will, too. In the meantime, because I believe in this truth, I get to live in the hope of eternal life with Him. Forever.

What a hope. What a love. What a Savior.

Today's the day we draw a line in the sand and say,
Aren't you grateful that God never gets distracted? 🙋‍♀️

He's always willing to help us when we do.

Don't try to battle today's distractions on your own. Ask God to help you overcome them.

This is a secret to living an abundant life. 🙇‍♀️

Am I the only one?

Distraction doesn’t always show up loud and obvious.
Sometimes it’s subtle.
Convenient.
Even well-intentioned.

But here’s the truth:
if the enemy of our souls can't destroy us—he will do all he can to distract us.

Let’s return.
Refocus.
Reopen the Word.
God’s not mad at us—we’re just one “Jesus, I am back” away from real connection.

Distractions are just annoyances in life, right? They are that, but are so much more.🚨

We live in a world of distraction, so naturally, we will be enticed by the distractions of this world. Distractions aren't just aren't annoyances, however, but they are actually keeping us from living the abundant life God has for us. 🤦‍♀️

Living distracted affects everything we do and how we live, including our relationships, our peace, and our ability to hear God's voice clearly. They are causing us to miss priceless moments happening right in front of us every single day. 🙋‍♀️

When we are distracted, we almost become like the seed sown among thorns in Matthew 13:22, where distractions choke out the life of the Word in us. We become stagnant and ineffective in our faith and life. Here's what it says,
