Do you ever wish you could start over?
Maybe yesterday didn’t go so well. Or, maybe you’ve walked through a string of days like that.
Maybe you thought this year would be different, but by the looks of it, this year isn’t going to be unlike any of the others before it.
You’re reminded of the damaging words that spilled out of your mouth toward your spouse, when you vowed your words would be sweeter. Especially on Valentine’s Day, nonetheless.
You’re remembering how you lost your patience and your temper with your children over the weekend. Now you’re sure you’ve scarred them for life.
Oh, and what about the mistake at work you made last week. That was a doosey.
Or, you committed to giving up that bad habit, but you gave into the temptation once again. Why keep trying, right?? It’s just too hard.
And don’t forget that other mess up… the one in which you knew better, but you did it anyway. Shame follows that one today.
Goodness, yes. We all fall. We all fail. We all experience hard days, and those days when we wish we would have just stayed in bed.
But these mess ups and mishaps don’t leave us hopeless. We can ask for forgiveness, forgive ourselves, then take a step in the right direction.
And start over.
It’s a good day to start over.
Our past is passed. Yesterday is gone. One minute ago is history. No matter what has or hasn’t transpired in the past, it’s done and over and it’s time to move on.
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;his mercies begin afresh each morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23
God’s mercies–His forgiveness, His compassion, His kindness, His favor, His blessing–are new every morning. Brand new. We don’t wake up with yesterdays’s mercies, or with the leftovers. We wake up with new, fresh mercies each morning.
It’s like unwrapping a gift at daybreak that’s shiny, sparkly, and never been used.
For us, for the next 24 (or so) hours.
That’s a great truth to wake up to, isn’t it?
Friend, I’ve heard it said, “Today’s the first day of the rest of your life.” Amen to that!
Let’s treat it as such. Let’s make it the best day. Give it all we’ve got. Embrace it with a victorious attitude, a fresh perspective, and our eyes fixed on Truth, and not the lies we’ve been listening to.
It’s a new day. Let’s walk into it, starting over together.
Enjoy this video of Matthew West’s new song, Day One! I’ll be singing it all day long.
Starting over…
